MANSEHRA: Armed robbers looted a bank on Chinar Road in the heart of the city on Thursday and escaped with over Rs10 million cash.

“Two armed men entered the bank and unarmed its two guards at gun point and decamped with the money,” DPO Shafiullah Khan Gandapur told reporters.

The bearded and unmasked men, who had reached the Allied Bank Chinar Road branch on a motorcycle, overpowered the guards, locked the entire staff inside a room and escaped with the money collected from cash counters.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene following the incident and started an investigation. “Bank’s security system, according to preliminary investigation, was out of order and the manager and other staff couldn’t inform police during the heist,” Mr Gandapur said.

He said closed circuit cameras footage and forensic evidence have been collected by the investigation officers. “I am optimistic that the duo would be arrested soon,” Mr Gandapur said.

The DPO said that police sealed all entrance and exit points leading to the city following the heist. We had also started questioning the manager and other staff members to trace the robbers, Mr Gandapur said.
