LARKANA: Two young cousins were gunned down by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle near Naudero town on Sunday.

The victims, Abdul Latif, 23, and Gulshan, 25, belonged to the Narejo clan. They were on their way to their native village riding a donkey cart after doing Eid shopping when the assailants targeted them, killing both the cousins on the spot.

Naudero DSP Nisar Brohi believed that it might be the latest attack in the ongoing enmity between Narejo and Kharoos clans having their properties in the riverine area near Madeji town of Shikarpur district. Sources in the area said that the hostility had already claimed over a dozen lives.

While the assailants sped away after committing the double murder, the area police transported the bodies to the Naudero Hospital. After medico-legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the heirs.

The deceased were residents of Phulpota village situated about one kilometre from Naudero town. Sohbat Narejo, uncle of the deceased, endorsed the DSP’s view when he accused some members of the Kharoos clan of carrying out the attack.

Meanwhile, the bereaved families and their relatives held a protest demonstration in Naudero in the evening. They held a sit-in outside the President House, the camp office of President Asif Ali Zardari, demanding arrest of the killers.

Leading the protest, Peer Bakhsh, Bahadur, Ali Sher and other Narejos told local journalists that they hoped justice would be done to them by taking the culprits to task.
