PESHAWAR: An official from the city patrolling force was martyred when unknown persons opened fire at him in Gulbahar area of the provincial capital on Saturday night.

Officials said that Asifullah was on his way back home from duty when the incident took place near his home.

Additional muharrar Gulbahar police station Hayat said that the incident took place at midnight, adding that there were marks on the body, which suggested that the policeman wrestled with the unknown persons before he was shot at.

“Asifullah embraced martyrdom before he could reach hospital,” a police official said, adding that a case had been registered against unknown persons.

Peshawar’s SSP operations Kashif Zulfiqar, SP Faqeerabad division Osama Ahmad Cheema and others also visited the spot and the hospital, and met relatives of the martyred police official.

Meanwhile, funeral of the martyred police official was offered at Peshawar’s police headquarters, which was attended by senior police officials and others.
