GUJRAT: A young girl and a man who had contracted love marriage around a year ago were found shot dead near Shahana Lok village in Mandi Bahauddin Sadar police precincts on Sunday.

A per police sources, the couple had gone “missing” a couple of days ago and their bodies were later found at a railway bridge on a canal.

They say Afshan (18) and Raheem alias Kalia of Mong village had contracted love marriage against the will of their respective families around a year ago.

Rehana Kausar, mother of the deceased girl, told the police that her daughter and son-in-law had gone somewhere on June 14 the last, but never returned.

She said that later she was informed by a family member that their bodies were found near Shahana Lok village.

On being informed about the two bodies lying on a railway bridge, police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Mandi Bahauddin District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, where doctors conducted autopsy and handed these over to their respective families.

A Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team also visited the spot and collected evidence.

Police have registered a case against unidentified killers under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the report of the mother of the deceased girl and started investigation.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a man allegedly gunned down his own maternal grandmother over a monetary dispute at Chellianwala village in Mandi Bahauddin Sadar police precincts.

Police say one Sohail Amjad, along with his accomplice, entered the house of his grandmother Maqsood Bibi and shot her dead. The suspects fled the scene.

Police arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.

A case was registered against the suspects under sections 302 and

34 of the PPC on the report of Zulfiqar Ahmed Gujjar, a relative of the deceased woman and started investigation.
