KHYBER/MARDAN/PESHAWAR: Family disputes claimed the lives of 10 persons in Khyber, Mardan and Peshawar districts, police said on Wednesday.

Police in Khyber said two armed groups exchanged fire after a verbal brawl over an issue in the Naee Abadi locality of Jamrud, which resulted in the killing of four persons on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Waqif Shah and Lawangeen, sons of Niamat Shah, and Nekdad and Haroon, sons of Warak Shah, the real cousins.

In Mardan, a “mentally ill” young man allegedly committed suicide after killing his father and two brothers and critically injuring his mother in Darbo village of Khura Banda in the limits of Sheikh Maltoon police station.

Police quoted the injured woman, identified as Munsifa, 51, as saying she, her husband and her sons were sleeping in the open air inside her house when another son, identified as Nihad Ali, 23, who was reportedly mentally ill, entered his home late on Tuesday night and allegedly opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result of the firing, she said her husband, Nasrullah, 56, and sons, identified as Faizullah, 36, and Ibadullah, 31, died on the spot, while she herself sustained critical wounds. She said her mentally ill soon later also shot himself dead.

The police registered FIR on the complaint of the injured woman against her son and began further investigations into the case.

Meanwhile, a drug addict allegedly shot his wife and son dead in the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station on the outskirts of Peshawar on Wednesday, police said. Two other family members were also injured in the firing.

Police alleged that Sial Mir, a drug addict, opened fire inside his house, killing his 45-year-old wife and 24-year-old son. They added two other female members, including Mir’s sister and sister-in-law, were injured.

The police registered an FIR.
