LIBRARY IN QUETTA: There is only one government library in Quetta and that too operates at a time when hardly five per cent of the students can make it. Other government libraries in the city have been shut down due to shortage of chairs and other facilities. The students who have joined public libraries are facing immense problems. The government should revise the library timings, and set up more libraries in Quetta.

UNSAFE BRIDGES: Harassment is a persistent issue on pedestrian bridges in many areas of Karachi, including Nipa in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. Drug addicts, who are usually not in their right frame of mind, harass children, women and young people on such bridges. Sometimes, they are not even properly clothed. How are people, especially women, supposed to use these bridges? The government and its various civic agencies must take action to make these bridges usable by women and children without any fear.

TAKING OATH: In order to curb corruption, all politicians should take oath on the Holy Quran before starting their journey as legislators, either provincial or federal. They should pledge that they will never misuse their power and will not be involved in corruption or favouritism. This should also be applied to all government employees, too.

COST OF DEATH: My aunt died of cancer in the United States recently. Her body was brought back to Pakistan for burial. While grieving the loss of a beloved family member, I learnt that it costs $11,000 to bring a body back home. At some point in the past, airlines did not charge anything for the purpose as a mark of respect. But now, everything stands commercialised. Losing a loved one is already devastating, and someone using it as an opportunity to make profit is extremely frustrating.
