LAHORE: A woman sustained severe burn injuries after her husband allegedly set her on fire in Multan on Saturday.

The suspect, Adil, had got married to Mehreen of Bahawalpur one-and-a-half years back and they were living in Bilal Nagar Shah Rukn-i-Alam Colony.

The suspect arrived home late at night and demanded money from his wife who refused to give him money. Adil and his unidentified accomplice sprinkled petrol on Mehreen and set her on fire.

Mehreen’s sister, who is also the wife of the brother of Adil, alerted the police.

Police and rescue ambulances reached the spot and shifted the burnt Mehreen to the Nishtar Hospital where she was said to be in critical condition.

Shah Rukn-i-Alam police registered the case against Adil on the complaint of the victim’s father, Asghar.

The initial investigation revealed that the suspect was an addict and demanded money from his wife for drugs.
