Tennis: Yasir extended by Aashiq

LAHORE, March 20: Pakistan Junior number one Yasir Khan recovered to beat Heera Aashiq in three sets to move into the second round of the All Pakistan tennis championship at the Bagh-i-Jinnah grass courts on Monday.

Yasir lost the first set but recovered to win the next two to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Heera has an easy sailing in the first set as Yasir made several unforced errors.

Jalil Khan, a probable of the Davis Cup training camp and also the younger brother of Aqeel cruised past Yousaf Anjum 6-0, 6-4.

Another Davis Cupper’s probable Aasim Shafik completed an impressive win against little-known Shahryar Hameed 6-0, 6-0.

International Nomi Qamar blasted Saad Mubarik 6-0, 6-0. Rashid Malik brushed aside Malik Abdul Rehman 6-0, 6-0.

More first round matches will be played on Tuesday when the ladies competition will also start.
