KARACHI: Journalist Kamal Siddiqi received the prestigious Journalists of Courage and Impact Award at the East-West Media Conference in Manila, on Monday.

Mr Siddiqi is the first Pakistani journalist to receive the biennial award. He was among seven individuals honoured for their dedication to journalism and press freedom, often in difficult circumstances.

The citation to honour him highlighted his work in the print, digital and broadcast media and his contribution to excellence through media education and trainings.

Others honoured at the ceremony include Ana Marie Pamintuan, Editor-in-Chief of The Philippine Star; Alan C. Miller, Founder of the News Literacy Project; Tom Grundy Editor-in-Chief of the Hong Kong Free Press; Glen van Zutphen, Founder of the VanMedia Group; Sincha Dimara, News Editor of Inside PNG; Soe Myint, Editor-in-Chief of Mizzima and John Nery, columnist with Rappler.
