QUETTA: The Baluchistan Government has sought approval of the Federal Government to enforce Shariat law in the province. This was stated by the Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Industries and Local Government, while speaking during the general discussion on the budget in the Baluchistan Assembly today [June 24].

He said that the Provincial Government had sent a proposal based on the recommendations of the Law Commission to Islamabad and added that if the Federal Government gave its approval Shariat law in Baluchistan would be introduced in a phased programme. The Law Commission … was set up by the previous NAP Government to ascertain the views of the people of the province on the mode of legal system suitable for the area including the tribal belt. — Staff Correspondent
