KASUR: A gang of 12 robbers injured three wedding guests and the groom on Saidpur Road in the limits of Allahabad police on Monday night.

The villagers and police exchanged fire with the alleged robbers, but the robbers fled.

According to police, the robbers intercepted a bus carrying wedding guests near Bhagiana Mor and snatched gold ornaments, phones and cash from them.

Meanwhile, one of the robbers opened indiscriminate fire when some members tried to overpower one of the robbers inside the bus. As a result, groom Abdul Jabar, his brother Abdul Ghafar and Sakina Bibi sustained injuries.

When the villagers learned of the incident, a large number of them rushed to the spot. Later, the police also joined them. The robbers, however, took cover in nearby fields and opened fire at the villagers and police, who retaliated.

The exchanged of fire continued for about an hour. The robbers, nevertheless, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The police are looking into the matter.

In a separate case, two robbers shot at and injured a 70-year-old man during a robbery at village Saharankay, within the limits of Phoolnagar police station.

According to Rescue 1122, two robbers shot at Umar Hayat when he did not stop his bike despite being intercepted at gunpoint.
