RAWALPINDI: PML-N lawmaker Dr Shaista Jadoon on Tuesday said that the federal government has started a programme to empower women so that they can play an active role in society by learning skills.

Speaking at a function at Rawalpindi Press Club, Dr Shaista Jadoon said that PML-N always took steps to empower women. “Taking special interest, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has increased the budget for women by 25 percent,” she said.

The function was held to launch an awareness campaign about inheritance rights of women and other human rights to make them empowered and participatory citizens.

She said that women always made sacrifices to keep the house safe, but if she asked for her right in inheritance then she becomes bad for everyone. It is an important issue and there is high time to come forward and play their role for the protection of their rights, she said. “We are supporters of peace and the leader of Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif, as soon as he arrived in Pakistan, sent a message of peace at the national and international level,” she said.

She said that women can play an important role for social peace through good teachings to their children. By getting good manners from mothers, she said that the youth will become a useful citizen of tomorrow.

She said that there was dire need to protect the rights of women and awareness among the people would help the women to know their rights. She said that the women would protect their right by getting high education and play their role in the development of the country.
