BAHAWALPUR: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) raiding teams, with the help of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and police, claim to have unearthed a massive power theft of around 80kW load allegedly by a traders’ leader.

According to a Mepco press release, the power theft was unearthed at three electric items’ showrooms owned by Electronics Market, Hussain Agahi, Multan, Anjuman-i-Tajiran president Sheikh Akram Hakim and his two sons.

The press release said the raiding teams removed 18 commercial meters installed at the three showrooms – Multan Electronics, Pakistan Electronics and Punjab Electronics.

All illegal installations were removed and taken into possession, while police were moved for registration of cases against the suspects, it said.

It added that after exact assessment of the volume of the power theft, heavy fines would also be imposed on the suspects.
