BAJAUR: Jamaat-i-Islami leaders on Wednesday warned the planned launch of military operation Azm-i-lstehkam would spell troubles for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They demanded of the federal government to withdraw decision immediately to end the ‘unrest’ among the people.

They were addressing a gathering held in the Nawagai town in connection with the election campaign of the party candidate for the July 11 by-election in PK-22.

“We reject the federal government’s decision to launch another military operation in the province,” said Inayatullah Khan, the JI provincial deputy emir.

He said the people were perturbed to hear that the federal government was going to launch another military operation in the province as they were still reeling from such actions launched in the past.

Mr Inayatullah said JI and its leadership wouldn’t allow the PML-N-led federal government to launch the proposed action.

The other speakers, including JI local chapter emir Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed, district deputy chief Qari Abdul Majeed, Haji Sardar Khan and the party’s candidate for PK-22 Abid Khan expressed the fear that the action would further stress the people out.

They asked the chief minister and leadership of all the political parties to play their role in forcing the government to shelve the plan.

They also appealed to the people to vote for the JI candidate in the by-election.
