TAXILA: Five people were killed after an ambulance rammed into an oil tanker on Hakla-D.I. Khan motorway (M-14) in Attock in the early hours of Saturday.

According to sources from the Rescue 1122 and National Highway and Motorway Police, three persons were also injured in the incident.

Spokesperson for Emergency Service Rescue 1122 Aamir Nawaz said the ill-fated ambulance was shifting a female patient from Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Jand to Benazir Bhutto hospital in Rawalpindi.

While overtaking an oil tanker near Hakla, the ambulance rammed into it. As a result, five persons on board the ambulance, including two women, died on the spot while three were injured.

He said Rescue 1122 Jand station official named Imran also lost his life in the accident while Waqar Ahmed was injured.

Soon after the accident, Rescue 1122 and National Highway and Motorway Police shifted the injured and dead to different hospitals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The wreckage of the vehicle was also removed to restore traffic.

The body of the rescue official was dispatched to his native town where he was buried with guard of honour.
