QUETTA: Mir Liaquat Ali Lehri, parliamentary secretary for services and general administration, walked out of the provincial assembly session on Saturday in protest against a police raid on his residence the previous night.

As the session began, Mr Lehri who belongs to the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, stood up on a point of order and informed the house that a family member, Danish Lehri, had a dispute with a traffic police constable, which escalated into a serious matter.

Despite Danish apologising to the police officials at Sariab station, an FIR was registered and police decided to arrest him.

Home minister assures the house issue would be resolved

Subsequently, he said, some provincial ministers and members of the house visited the Sariab police station where they met the Quetta DIG to resolve the issue. However, the DIG called the entire police force to raid his house.

Mr Lehri questioned, “Am I a terrorist? Why use such force to arrest my family member?” He protested, “We are not terrorists. Why is this injustice happening to us?” and walked out of the house.

Provincial Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Ziaullah Langove assured the house that the incident had been brought to the notice of the chief minister and himself.

He said after proper investigation, the house would be informed, while assuring the legislature that the issue would be resolved.
