GILGIT: Two tourists were killed and 17 injured when two vehicles collided with each other on Babusar Road near Thak Chilas of Diamer on Sunday.

A tourist van was descending from Babusar Top while a jeep was heading towards Babusar when they collided with each other in the limits.

As a result, two persons, including a minor girl, died on the spot while 17 people were injured.

After receiving information about the accident, the rescue teams reached the site ans shifted the injured to Regional Headquarters Hospital Chilas.

According to initial report, 17 people were on board both vehicles when the accident occurred.

Police said four people were on board the jeep and were from Islamabad while the 17 injured, including women and children, were from various areas of Karachi and Punjab.

The cause of the accident was brake failure of the descending van.

After remaining closed for seven months, Babusar Road was reopened to light traffic on June 11.
