SWABI: The police claimed on Monday to have solved a blind murder case after a decade by arresting two accused.

A statement issued by the police said unidentified assailants had shot dead Zareen Khan of Swabi city on June 27, 2014, and also killed his son Umar Ghani on April 14, 2024.

An official told Dawn on condition of anonymity that Zareen’s murder was pushed under the carpet but it was the killing of his son that prompted the police to take practical steps for tracing the blind double murder.

District police officer Haroon Rashid Khan had constituted a team led by SP investigations Swabi Malik Mohammad Fayyaz to use professional policing and modern technology to trace the culprits.

The official said the police arrested Wali Mohammad and Muneer Khan, who confessed during investigation that they had murdered the father and his son over a dispute involving a woman.

LOADSHEDDING: A day after a complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike here against electric loadshedding, the residents were subjected by an excessive power outage on Monday.

The consumers derided the Peshawar Electric Supply Company for ‘causing’ them misery in the hot and humid weather.

The strike on Sunday was observed on the call of Swabi Action Committee aimed at pressing their demand for ending excessive power outages and providing people with subsidised electricity in return for sacrificing their lands for construction of Tarbela Dam’s main powerhouse in the district.
