KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided not to file an appeal against the judgement of a single bench of the Sindh High Court that had scrapped the entire recruitment process initiated last year by the provincial government in over 140 departments on a suit filed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

Talking to Dawn, Law Minister Zia Lanjar, who also holds the portfolio of home, categorically said that the provincial government did not have any intention to file an appeal against the SHC verdict.

“We will implement the court’s order in letter and spirit,” he added.

He said that the court had ordered the re-advertisement of the impugned vacancies.

The minister also disputed the number of the vacancies as reported in the media and said that the recruitment process was initiated for less than 10,000 posts in different provincial government departments.

To a question, he said that provincial government had consented before the court that the impugned vacancies would be re-advertised and recruitment would be made strictly in accordance with the provincial government’s service rules and regulations.

On Saturday, the SHC had annulled the employment process initiated by the previous Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government few weeks before completion of its term.

The MQM-P filed a suit before the SHC and stated that various departments, offices and other bodies of the Sindh government had issued advertisements in July and August in a great haste with mala fide intention to complete the process of appointments illegally.

The party claimed that over 54,000 people were illegally being appointed on BS-1 to BS-15 posts.

In August last year, the SHC through an interim order had suspended the operation of all the advertisements, issued in July and August, impugned by the plaintiff and restrained the authorities concerned from processing the recruitment in question till further orders.
