Munawar Khan, a brother of the deceased, told the Lakki city police that his brother was asleep in the guestroom of a villager, Fareed on Monday night, where he was shot dead by someone. He said on information they found the body lying in a pool of blood there.

He said his family had a murder enmity with some villagers, but that had already been settled as per local traditions.

The body was handed over to relatives after completing medico-legal formalities at Government City Hospital.

The police registered a case against unknown killer(s) and began an investigation.

Separately, a teenage boy was shot at and injured over a petty dispute in Kotka Gul Khawas area of Lakki on Tuesday.

Police said Rifatullah and an accomplice intercepted Shahidullah, 14, and his father, Kiramatullah when they were going home from a mosque. They said Rifatullah opened fire, injuring Shahidullah, who was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tajazai.

They said the accused were angry as the boy damaged a cricket pitch.

VISIT: Bannu district police officer Ziauddin Ahmed paid a surprise inspection visit to Mirakhel police station on Monday night to check presence of cops and security arrangements there in a bid to dispel the impression that the police do not perform patrol duty at nighttime.

Dressed in a bulletproof jacket, Mr Ahmed met cops and spent some time with them.

On Sunday, Bannu Qaumi Jirga regretted that cops remained confined to the police stations after dusk, leaving people at the mercy of outlaws.

The DPO directed the policemen to expedite the campaign against anti-social elements and miscreants.

Also in the day, Mr Ahmed chaired a meeting at the Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines in Bannu city to discuss Muharram security with stakeholders.

Clerics from both Sunni and Shia sects assured the police of full cooperation to maintain peace and harmony during the sacred month.
