PESHAWAR: A traffic policeman was martyred when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on him near the Kabotar Chowk on the Ring Road here on Tuesday, the police said.
The incident took place in the limits of Paharipura police station, and the martyred cop identified as constable Mohammad Zahir Shah was on his way home after duty when he was attacked.
The police said unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on him near the Abasin University close to the Kabotar Chowk, adding that a search operation was launched in the area following the attack.
Funeral prayers of the martyred cop were offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.
KP police chief Akhtar Hayat Khan, Capital City Police Officer Syed Qasim Ali Khan, SSP operations Kashif Zulfiqar and other officials attended the funeral. Talking to the martyred cop’s family, Hayat paid homage to his services. He assured the family that police would leave no stone unturned to unmask the attackers behind the murder.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of the traffic police constable in Peshawar.
The chief minister extended his condolences to the bereaved family, offering prayers for the departed soul and for the family’s patience during this difficult time. He directed the police to take immediate and necessary measures to arrest those responsible for the attack.
“We share the grief of the family, and those involved in the firing will be brought to justice,” said the Chief Minister, according to APP.
