RAWALPINDI: A sub-inspector was directed to vacate his official residence in the Police Lines Headquarters after his son’s friends were allegedly involved in ransacking the house of the in-charge of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), stealing two rifles, a pistol and other valuables.

The Police Lines Headquarters, known for its high security, houses the offices of senior police officials including the CPO, SSP Operations, SP Investigation, SP Headquarters, annexes of the Inspector General Punjab police, armoury as well as their residences.

Despite the high level of security, the house of Inspector Syed Mohsinul Hassan, in-charge ACLC was broken into on the occasion of Eidul Azha while his family was away.

Upon returning home after performing his official duty, he found his household items scattered.

The stolen items include a 7.62mm rifle worth Rs300,000, a 9mm pistol worth Rs250,000, another Bore 12 rifle worth Rs400,000 along with gold jewellery and cash.

Inspector Hassan suspected the potential involvement of street boys residing in the area with a history of crime.

Following the FIR, the investigation revealed possible involvement of friends of the son of a sub-inspector who had been performing his duty as an operator with a senior police officer.

The senior police officer stated that the accused involved in the theft of weapons had been identified, though the involvement of the sub-inspector’s son could not be established.

According to police sources, the inquiry report was brought to the attention of CPO Rawalpindi who initially ordered the sub-inspector to vacate the official residence but reversed the decision due to insufficient evidence against his son.

When the spokesman for the CPO was contacted, and asked about the arrest of the accused and recovery of the stolen weapons, he said that the case is under investigation.
