MANCHESTER: The liberal Manchester Guardian said in an editorial today [July 2] that the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, to Moscow must be seen against the background of Pakistan’s dissatisfaction with Britain.
It quoted a recent speech by Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, in which he complained that Pakistan had not received sufficient material aid from Great Britain to organise a proper defence and that British business men were not investing in Pakistan, and expressed disappointment that the Commonwealth did not mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
[Meanwhile, according to news agencies in Washington,] The plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on Aug 6, 1945, will take its place among the historic aircraft in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air Museum. The B-29 Superfortress will be formally presented to the Museum in ceremonies at Chicago on July 30. It will be flown from its storage place at Davis-Monthan air force base, Tucson, Arizona, by the pilot who took it on its bomb run over Hiroshima, Colonel Paul V. Tibbetts.
