DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two policemen were injured when unknown militants opened fire on polio teams in Shah Alam village of Tank and Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.

A police official said a cop, Zahid, was injured when miscreants attacked a polio team in Shah Alam village of neighbouring Tank district.

He said the policemen responded promptly to the attack and engaged the militants in an exchange of fire, which continued for around 10 minutes, but the outlaws managed to escape.

Later, a police contingent was sent to the area in order to trace the culprits.

The injured policeman was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tank. Later, the injured was referred to Peshawar due to his serious condition.

Meanwhile, unknown militants opened fire on a polio team in Kulachi tehsil here, injuring a policeman, namely Arif.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack on policemen, and directed the police authorities to take necessary measures to arrest the culprits.
