QUETTA: Five children from the same family drowned in a pond while attempting to rescue one another in Tehsil Jhao of Awaran district, on Wednesday.

Since the pond created during a road construction was not filled in by the contractor, it was filled with water from recent rains.

According to Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Zehri, the children were bathing in the pond when they lost their balance in the deep water, resulting in their tragic deaths. It is believed that they attempted to rescue each other, leading to the heartbreaking outcome.

The Levies Force recovered the bodies with the help of locals and shifted them to a nearby health facility. The bodies were later handed over to the family, and the victims were buried in their native graveyard.

The deputy commissioner vowed to send recommendations to the PDMA and other authorities concerned to provide compensation to the grieving family.
