DERA GHAZI KHAN: A mentally challenged woman allegedly stabbed her three minor sons, causing them injuries on Wednesday in Three Marla Scheme adjacent to Model Town in Civil Lines police precincts.

The children were shifted to Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital, where the condition of two of them is said to be critical.

According to Moin Akhtar, the father of the children, his wife, who is mentally challenged, allegedly attacked their sons Deen Muhammad, 5, Shahwaiz 4 and five-month-old Shah Zain with a knife.

Intensive Care Unit In-charge Dr Abrar Hussain said the condition of the two children is critical and all possible medical assistance is being provided. Police have arrested the suspect.

Suicide attempt

A police team rescued Tanveer, a resident of Chowk Chorhatta, who allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the Indus River at Ghazi Ghat bridge along with three children.

Reports said Tanveer was struggling with inflation and domestic conditions and attempted suicide along with his three children.

Official visit

South Punjab Secretary (Canals) Ijaz Khaliq Razzaqi on Wednesday visited Taunsa barrage in Dera Ghazi Khan zone and reviewed the ongoing development works there.

He was briefed by the officials. The secretary also visited Surilund and Sanghar mountain drains and reviewed the measures taken to prevent the expected floods.

In this regard, necessary instructions were issued to the officers present on the spot.

The secretary said timely evacuation of the population of sensitive places and low-lying areas should be ensured so that life and property can be secured. Weak embankments should be strengthened by ensuring sanitation.

The natural channels of rivers and mountains should be cleared of obstructions and encroachments so that the flood water can have a safe path to the river.

He said that negligence and lack of interest in duties would not be tolerated.
