KASUR: Ten-year-old Zahira was buried alive and three family members were injured as the roof of their rented house collapsed on them during a heavy rain spell in Sadiqabad Colony on Saturday.

The family, including Safdar, his wife Asia Bibi and daughters Zahira and Fatima, were sleeping when the roof caved in.

Rescue 1122 retrieved Zahira’s body and shifted the injured to a hospital. The family, from Vehari, was residing in Mandi Usmanwala for begging.

JI: Jamaat-i-Islami central Punjab Emir Javid Kasuri has criticised the government, civil and military bureaucracy, and corrupt politicians for plundering national wealth, while the poor suffer from inflated utility bills and overall inflation.

Addressing the media, Mr Kasuri condemned the Defamation Bill, calling it a ‘black law’ to silence the media and the oppressed. He also criticised the budget, prepared under the IMF directions.

He alleged that independent power producers, providing costly power, are favoured by certain political parties and the establishment.

He cited an example of a company receiving Rs28bn without contributing to the national grid. He said some parties, like PML-N, promised free electricity units but instead charge exorbitant rates.
