GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested another human trafficker in connection with the Libyan boat tragedy case.

A spokesman for the FIA said the Gujrat circle team arrested Muhammad Ashraf from village Langey of Kunjah police precincts.

He had allegedly received Rs2.4m from an illegal immigrant to send him to Italy last year. However, the boat carrying illegal immigrants capsized off the Libyan coast, causing the death of more than 100 people, mainly belonging to Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Azad Kashmir areas.

The spokesman said Ashraf was in the FIA’s list of wanted men.

Earlier in the week, the FIA had arrested two suspects in connection with the same incident.

The heirs of the victims of the Libyan boat tragedy recently expressed dissatisfaction with the progress in the investigation and urged the authorities in Pakistan, Libya and Greece to share information about the survivors of the incident. A number of families still hoped that their relatives would be among the survivors.
