SMOOTH PROCESS: The decision to initiate round-the-clock services at passport offices needs to be appreciated. I was able to collect my renewed passport even on a Sunday and the fast-track option meant it was ready in about two to three working days. The entire process was better than I had expected. My perception of our bureaucracy and government offices certainly improved because of this little experience which was as smooth as it should have been. I would like to thank all those working in government offices and facilitating the public with honesty and a smile on their faces.

BILLING ISSUES: I paid my electricity bill on June 1 via my bank’s mobile application three days before the due date. However, I have received the current bill that has included the previous month’s charges as arrears, and a penalty has been imposed as well. It appears that the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) does not care about those who pay their bills on time. Is anyone listening?

WOMEN EDUCATION: A known cleric has once again kicked up a controversy by asking parents not to send their daughters to schools if they cared about their respect and honour. The message is derogatory and the language he uses to disseminate the message is disparaging. The gender disparity in literacy rates is already worrisome, and such rhetoric exacerbates these challenges. The authorities concerned should take strict action against all such culprits.

AMUSEMENT PARKS: The absence of a family amusement park in Hyderabad is indicative of the government’s neglect. A family amusement park not only provides a platform for socialisation and community building, but also contributes to the cultural enrichment of a city. The people of Hyderabad deserve to have their recreational needs fulfilled.
