LAKKI MARWAT: Security arrangements have been finalised for peaceful observance of the 10th of Muharram in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts, officials claimed on Tuesday.

They said after formulating comprehensive security plans the subordinate police officials had been directed to implement the same with true spirit to avert any untoward incident.

In Bannu, district police officer Ziauddin Ahmed directed sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and SHOs to keep a close liaison with members of the peace committee and elders and religious scholars from both Shia and Sunni sects to maintain peace and harmony during the sacred month.

During a visit to the Imambargah Hussainia and routes of processions, he inspected security arrangements and cops’ deployment there.

Mr Zia directed the policemen to be alert, keep a vigil on suspects and their movement and implement security standard operating procedures in letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, Lakki district police officer Taimur Khan has cancelled leaves of policemen and deployed 1,683 cops for security of Muharram processions in the district.

An official said a control room and a command post had been set up in Lakki city for effective monitoring of security arrangements.

Also, Lakki Marwat deputy commissioner Rahmat Ali Wazir along with the district police officer visited Mohallah Sayyedan in Lakki city to check Muharram security arrangements there.

In Abbottabad, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hazara Region, Tahir Ayub Khan has directed the district police officers to maintain law and order during Muharram.

He directed foolproof security of the routes of mourning processions and Imambargahs.

He said no assembly or procession should be allowed without obtaining NOC.

DIG Ayub also said movement of suspicious persons and persons placed on the Fourth Schedule should be closely monitored. He directed establishment of Muharram control room at the district level.

Also, Dera tehsil mayor Umar Amin Gandapur along with relevant officials paid a visit to various procession routes and Imambargahs in the city.

The mayor along with the officials of tehsil municipal administration and Water and Sanitation Services Company visited Imambargah Chah Syed Munawar Shah, Central Imambargah Imam Hussain (Thala Bammu Shah), Imambargah Imam Hassan (Bhora Shah), Imambargah Thala Dr Jalal Hussain and Imambargah Yallah Shah.

The mayor also inspected the under-construction street of Darbar Shah Sahib Munawar, and instructed the contractor to ensure better standard of work.

He directed the TMA and WSSC officials to ensure functioning of the streetlights and cleanliness of the mourners’ routes.
