KARACHI: The Sindh government has de-notified the services of eight provincial law officers.

According a notification issued on July 8 by the law secretary, the services of two additional advocates general — Muhammad Soulat Rizvi and Ch. Waseem Akhtar — and six assistant advocates general —Naushaba Haq Solangi, Ghulam Akbar Uqaili, Imran Ali Jatoi, Sharaf Uddin Jamali, Ghulam Mustafa Abro and Urooj Fatima Bhutto — have been de-notified.

“Pursuant to the provision of sub-rule (1) of Rule 4 of the Sindh Law Officer (Conditions of Service) Rule 1940, the Government of Sindh has been pleased to dispense-with/de-notify the services of following law officers, with immediate effect,” it added

Sources said that there were around 70 provincial law officers in Sindh, including around 50 in Karachi, and the sacked AAGs were posted at the provincial metropolis.

Some of the recently de-notified AAGs told Dawn that they had been appointed about two to three years ago.

When asked about their removal, they maintained that it was the discretion of the provincial government to take such decisions.

Dawn tried to reach out Advocate General Hasan Akbar for comments, but to no avail.
