SWABI/ABBOTTABAD: Army soldier Idrees Khan was laid to rest in Swabi district early on Thursday with full military honours.

The 34-year-old was martyred in a fierce fight with militants in Hassankhel area of Peshawar district on Wednesday.

Idrees, from Naro Kili area in Maneri Bala area of Swabi district, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.

His funeral was attended by army officers and personnel, government officials, and locals in large numbers.

The soldier left behind a widow, two daughters and a little son.

His father, Roidar Khan, told Dawn that his son fought against militants gallantly until his last breath.

“I am proud of my younger son’s shahadat [martyrdom],” he said.

Mr Khan said his family eagerly awaited his son’s return from work on leave, but fate had other plans.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of ASI Akram Khan was offered in the Salhad area of Abbottabad district on Thursday.

The official was martyred during an operation against militants in Hasankhel area of Peshawar on Tuesday.

Deputy inspector general of police in Hazara region Tahir Ayub Khan, district police officer Umar Tufail Khan, police officers, notables, and people from other walks of life attended the funeral. The DIG and DPO laid wreaths on the grave and offered condolences to his family.
