HARIPUR: Agriculture experts strongly advised the farmers to sow sunflower crop at maximum areas to increase their income and availability of sunflower oil in the country.

The agriculture extension department organised the awareness session for the farmers of tehsil Khanpur on Thursday.

Former provincial minister and PTI’s leader Yousuf Ayub Khan was guest of honor whilethe farmers from different villages and localities of Khanpur Tehsil, officials from Agriculture, and banking sector attend the event.

Speaking on the occasion, District Director Agriculture Mumtaz Ahmed Khan briefed the farmers on sunflower crop, its financial benefits and added that in the face of growing trend of use of sunflower oil in the country, the market of sunflower seeds was expanding fast.

He said that the arable land of Haripur district was most suitable for sunflower cultivation with a potential of 22-25 mounds of crop produce per acre. He said that the sunflower seed, sown in Haripur had yield very positive results as the seed contained 30 to 40 per cent of oil content.

He informed the participants about the technical support, the agriculture department would offer to them from sowing to harvesting the sunflower crop.

He said that to encourage local farmers, a package of sunflower seed for an area of 30 acres was being distributed free of cost among the growers.

Addressing the session, the former provincial minister Yousuf Ayub Khan said that the PTI’s provincial government was making all out efforts to enhance the agriculture productivity by extending every possible support to the farming community.
