SWABI: Speakers at the oath-taking ceremony of Tehsil Topi Bar Association urged the lawyers to play their due role in the supremacy of the Constitution and strengthening of democratic values in the country.

Awami National Party central council member Shah Nawaz Akhunzada was the chief guest on the occasion, who administered oath to newly elected office-bearers of the bar association on Saturday.

The office-bearers of the District Bar Association Abbottabad, High Court Bar Association, KP Bar Council and others attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah Nawaz said that the Supreme Court repeatedly tried to make genuine interpretations of the Constitution, and after the 18th amendment and abolition of the concurrent list, the provincial government had the powers to take over the production of electricity to end the unjust loadshedding.

He said the parliament was the supreme institution of the country, but wrong interpretations of the Constitution had created many complicated issues, harming the supremacy of the parliament.

The newly elected president of the Topi Bar Association Changaiz Khan Advocate and others also spoke on the occasion.

Changaiz Khan said that there were many hurdles in the smooth delivery of justice to the common people, which needed to be removed.
