SAHIWAL: A youth was booked for allegedly poisoning his wife at village 134/9-L, following accusations that she was childless.

Ghala Mandi police registered a case against Ahmed Raza and his two accomplices for the murder of his wife Nimra Majeed under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of woman’s father.

Sources said Nimra, a resident of Chak 132/9-L, married Ahmed Raza nine months ago. Nimra’s father claimed that his daughter was “teased” and “abused” for not conceiving, which led to ongoing conflict between Nimra and her in-laws.

On Sunday, Ahmed Raza informed Nimra’s father, Abdul Majeed, that Nimra’s condition was critical and she had been admitted to Sahiwal Teaching Hospital. Nimra’s family rushed to the hospital and found her dead.

Ahmed Raza said during an argument with Nimra, he gave her some intoxicant to prevent her from making a scene. He claimed that she fainted and was taken to the hospital, where she died a few hours later.

Nimra’s family alleged that she was poisoned by her husband and his accomplices. Ghala Mandi police have sent the body for an autopsy.

The station house officer said samples were sent to a forensic lab to determine whether the cause of death was poison or an overdose of intoxicant.
