BAHAWALPUR: Saddar police on Tuesday registered a case against 38 people, including three nominated motorcyclists and 35 unidentified men, for allegedly attacking a police team during Muharram security duty and damaging an official vehicle and their gadgets at Bindra Pulli here on Multan Road on Monday night.

According to the first information report registered under sections 353, 379, 186, 506, 427, 148, and 149 of Pakistan Penal Code, complainant ASI Muhammad Abid Qazi stated that three motorcyclists Muhammad Waqas, Ehtesham, and Muhammad Hamza, along with other bikers attempted to break the police cordon and remove barriers installed for the safe passage of a Muharram rally, trying to disrupt the security measures. When resisted by the police, they allegedly used abusive language and left.

However, after a short while, these motorcyclists, accompanied by about thirty-five unidentified accomplices, returned and allegedly attacked the police officials on duty. They assaulted the officials with clubs, tore the uniforms of constables Shehzad Muddasir and Ibrar Hussain, and stole their cash.

The police have so far made no arrests.

KIDNAP: Three men allegedly abducted a young girl from her house at village 2011/EB in the limits of Gaggoo police station in Vehari district.

According to police sources, Ghulam Murtaz Rehmani along with his two unidentified accomplices in the absence of her father Hanif allegedly abducted Khadeja (23) at gunpoint and bundled her into a car and managed their escape.

The Gaggo police have registered a case.

STAY ORDER: The Multan bench of Lahore high court (LHC) on Monday stayed the transfer of 89 traffic wardens and sought a report from additional Inspector-general (establishment).

According to counsels Mahar Muhammad Ilyas, Ms. Nadira Noor and Aftab Khan of petitioners Khalil Ahmed, Muhammad Shafiq, Rizwan Salim and others belonging to Vehari district, they submitted to the high court that the cadre of wardens has been changed and they are working under district traffic police officer and as such their transfers couldn’t be ordered on provincial level.

The LHC suspended the orders of AIG and sought a report from him.
