KARACHI: The Sindh government on Thursday reappointed Grade-21 police officer Javed Akhtar Odho as additional inspector general of police of Karachi.

According to a notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, “Allah Bux aka Javed Akhtar Odho, an officer of police service of Pakistan (BS-21), awaiting posting, is posted with immediate effect and until further orders as additional inspector general of police/Karachi range.”

Mr Odho relieved Imran Yaqoob Minhas, PSP (BS-21), additional IGP/CTD Sindh, Karachi, of the additional charge, added the order.

This was the second time that Mr Odho has been appointed for the post.

Earlier, he had served as the top cop of the metropolis from July 2022 till Sept 5, 2023.

He was removed from his post by a caretaker government as per directions of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Javed Odho is considered a senior police officer.

An official told Dawn that Mr Odho’s batch mates and, even in one case, juniors to him, had been serving as the IGPs of Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a police spokesperson, Javed Odho has never faced any departmental inquiry in his career as police officer, which started in 1994.

He has vast experience as he had served in different districts and divisions/ranges in Sindh and other provinces as well.

He also served in the United Nations peace mission in Kosovo between 2000 and 2001.

When ‘Karachi operation’ was launched in 2013, Mr Odho was appointed as DIG-West in Karachi.

When he was posted in Balochistan, he was promoted to Grade-21 in 2021 and later on his services were placed at the disposal of Sindh government and subsequently, he was appointed as the metropolis police head in 2022.
