ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training on Friday notified curriculum for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which will be taught from grade 1 to 5 in all public and private primary schools of the capital.
According to the education ministry, this curriculum will enable students to develop a strong foundation in IT and AI. It will also help them stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
The ministry said this curriculum would help students pursue exciting career opportunities in tech and AI.
“This curriculum is a living document that will be regularly updated to reflect the latest advancements in technology and AI. It aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” a statement said.
Speaking to Dawn, Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said the curriculum was developed by the National Curriculum Council and it would be implanted from this academic session starting next month.
He, however, said this curriculum would be started from the third week of August when hiring of computer experts would be completed.
He said besides regular curriculum and syllabus, students would be imparted additional education of IT and AI.
Mr Wani said public-sector primary schools in Islamabad had around 25 million students and they all would get benefit from this initiative.
“After completing primary education, our students will develop a knowhow about computer navigation, key boarding, core Apps and software, basic computer maintenance, basic coding etc,” he said, adding that in AI field, students would be able to understand the basic concepts and applications of AI, fostering curiosity, critical thinking and ethical understanding of AI technologies.
The federal secretary said there would be no exam for this IT and AI education to avoid any burden and pressure on students, adding that, “we want students learn these skills like a fun activity”.
