HARIPUR: A man and his nephew drowned near the Khanpur Dam, police said here on Saturday.

The Khanpur police quoted witnesses as saying that a man and a minor boy were bathing downstream of Khanpur reservoir near Tarnava Bridge when the boy slipped into deep waters.

In a bid to rescue the boy the young man also jumped after him, but he also drowned, the witnesses told the police.

The local divers recovered the bodies and shifted them to the Khanpur Hospital, where the deceased were identified as Faheem Ahmed, 38, resident of Toba Tek Singh, and his nephew, Mohammad Ibrahim, 7.

It may be added that during the last over a month at least 12 people, including three girls, drowned in Khanpur Dam and Tarbela Lake.
