SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) imposed a fine / compensation of Rs7.2 million on a group of Bakhrani community members after declaring it guilty of killing two brothers belonging to the same community about 15 years ago.

The aggrieved side, resident of Tangwani town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district, had taken the matter to the jirga with plea to help settle the matter by punishing the guilty.

The jirga, chaired by Mir Ashraf Khan Bijarani, heard the two sides and after holding consultations with his aides reached the conclusion that the group led by Shahd Dost alias Shahi Bakhrani was guilty of killing Noor Khan and Bahar Khan‘for honour’.

It ordered the guilty side to pay Rs7.2 million to Punhal Bakhrani, the third brother of the victims, as fine / compensation.

Accepting the ruling, the guilty side deposited Rs500,000 on the spot and promised to pay off the remaining amount in four instalments within the next four months.
