QUETTA: The general secretary of Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) Shah Rasool and another leader Mir Ataullah Langove resigned from their positions in protest against the ‘undue’ delay in bar elections.

Both BHCBA leaders, while announcing their resignations at a press conference, said the delay in bar elections was putting on hold other matters as well.

They said the Balochistan Bar Council had already delayed elections for nine months, which was a violation of the Constitution.

They warned if the bar council did not announce elections by Sunday, a general body meeting of lawyers would be called to take an action against delaying tactics of the Balochistan Bar Council.

They said elections were a democratic process, and adhering to the Constitution strengthens democratic practices.

The bar council’s actions are obstructing the constitutional process, which is not good for democracy, they warned.
