KARACHI: A man and his wife were shot dead in the Manghopir area over their free-will marriage on Monday evening, police said.

Area SHO Bashir Ahmed Wadho said that Adil Muhammed, 22, and Saira Luqman, 20, were killed in their house in Amir Mohammed Goth near G-19 bus stop. He said that they were also stabbed.

He said the victims were residents of Husain D’Silva Town in North Nazimabad. After tying the knot on their free will, they went into hiding and started living in Manghopir because Saira’s parents were against their marriage.

The SHO said that it appeared that her relatives traced the couple as two women entered their rented home on some pretext. Later, six assailants riding on three motorbikes entered the house and killed the couple, he added.

Initial investigations suggested that the couple originally hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the SHO said.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
