KARACHI: A man killed his father-in-law as well as his infant daughter during a quarrel in Bahadurabad, police said.

SSP-East Dr Farrukh Raza said on Monday that the incident took place inside a flat in Star Home in BMCHS where during a heated argument over a domestic issue, suspect Sikander Javed killed his father-in-law Zubair Razzaq and his seven-month-old daughter Fatima.

After the incident, Sikander managed to escape from the spot.

Gulshan SP Abdul Aleem told the media that the man and his granddaughter died due to ‘torture’.

He said the police were treating it as a double murder case.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that a post-mortem examination of deceased Zubair was carried out on Sunday while an autopsy of his granddaughter, Fatima, was done on Monday and both were found to have died of head injuries.

“Both had sustained multiple injuries all over the body,” she said, adding that head injuries led to death in both instances.

On Monday, the New Town police registered a murder case against Sikander and his mother, Erum, on the complaint of victim’s son Fahad Zubair.

According to the FIR, the complainant said that his sister Hira married Sikander in Dec 2022 and the couple had a seven-month-old daughter. He alleged that the suspect was involved in “immoral activities” and because of such activities, the couple often quarreled with each other.

He said his sister left her in-laws’ house three to four times in the past but each time, they persuaded her to return. However, on Sunday, his sister called in the evening and said that Sikander was frequently quarreling with her and did not want her to stay at home.

When her father, along with other family members, arrived at Sikander’s flat in Bahadurabad at around 8:45pm on Sunday, the suspect started beating Zubair. In the meantime, her sister informed the complainant who called Madadgar 15, reached the scene and moved his father and niece first to their home, then to a nearby hospital which referred them to the Aga Khan University Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Subsequently, the bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a shopkeeper, Haji Suleman, died after a stray bullet hit him in the head outside his shop in Jamshed Quarters on Monday.
