SWABI: Gunmen killed a man and his married daughter and injured his 19-year-old son here on Wednesday over a rivalry, said police.

The firing incident occurred on the Swabi-Jehangira Road near Kala Lara area as the three family members were on the way to the Shahmansoor judicial complex on a motorcycle.

SHO of the Swabi City police station Shahzad Khan said the woman was living at her parents’ house due to strained relations with her husband and in-laws.

He said the woman had filed for the marriage’s dissolution, with her case pending with a family court at the judicial complex.

“The case led to rivalry between the two families as the woman’s husband, Babar Ali, considered it dishonour,” he said.

The SHO said the police had registered an FIR and raided the houses of the accused but couldn’t arrest them.

Mohammad Faisal, who was injured in the gun attack, insisted that Babar Ali, Mirwais Khan and Asghar Khan intercepted the motorcycle he, his father and sister rode, and opened fire.

“My father and sister suffered critical injuries and died at the Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital, Shahmansoor,” he said.

Meanwhile, football player Qaim Ali was killed when a tree fell on him in the Bachai village here on Wednesday.

ABSENTEEISM: Adviser to the chief minister on industries Abdul Karim expressed annoyance after finding some employees absent from duty during a surprise visit to the Chota Lahor tehsil headquarters hospital here on Wednesday.

He said he won’t tolerate dereliction of duty or negligence by staff members of public sector hospitals and medical centres.

Mr Larim reviewed the services provided to visitors, according to a news release issued by the regional information office.

He said the government had prioritised the development of health and other key sectors.

The aide to the CM said health services should be available to the people free of charge. He asked doctors and paramedics to handle patients politely.
