DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Dera police on Friday arrested four robbers and recovered Rs3.3 million cash they received selling the 30,000 litres of diesel they had taken out from an oil tanker some two months ago.

A police spokesman said a team of Dera Town police station traced the two-month-old case.

He said eight armed men dressed in uniform of customs department took away 30,000 litres diesel from an oil tanker and abducted its owner, Ahmad Nawaz, a resident of Kohat district, along with his assistant, Karimullah.

He said the police traced the case and arrested four accused, who were identified as Mohammad Yaqub, Mohammad Waheed, Mohammad Zubair and Mohammad Asif.

The police also recovered Rs3.3 million cash, which they received by selling the diesel.

The spokesman said the police were conducting raids to arrest the rest of the accused – Tauseefullah, Nematullah, Mohammad Irfan, Noor Zaman and Mohammad Ishaq.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy died when a speeding truck hit him on the Mufti Mehmood Bypass in the limits of Saddar police station.

A police official said Saifullah Wazir, a resident of Gomal Khurd area, was going from Shorkot to his home on a motorcycle, when a speeding truck coming from Dera side hit him. As a result, he died on the spot.

The Saddar police registered a case on the report of deceased’s uncle, Ayub Wazir.

PLANTATION DRIVE: Dera deputy commissioner Sarah Rehman on Friday inaugurated the monsoon plantation drive, under which over 70,000 saplings would be planted across the district.

She inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling on the lawns of the Circuit House during a ceremony.

On the occasion, she urged the people to actively participate in the plantation drive. She said trees, being the best source of oxygen supply, played an essential role in sustaining the ecosystem. “The trees also eliminate air pollution,” she added.

Meanwhile, she also paid a surprise visit to the District Headquarters Hospital and Women’s Hospital and checked facilities being provided to patients.

The DC also checked the attendance register of doctors and paramedical staff.

She instructed the employees to ensure their attendance at their place of posting and perform their duties diligently.

She inquired about the treatment facilities available to patients. She said no effort should be spared for ensure better treatment of patients.
