RAWALPINDI: Apparently struck by poverty, a young man attempted self-immolation on the premises of railway station on Friday.

Mohammad Faizan, 19, a resident of Bhakkar, was shifted to the hospital with 70 per cent burn injuries as his condition was stated to be critical and was unable to give his statement.

The incident happened when an unidentified person set himself on fire after sprinkling kerosene on his body near plateform # 5 in the afternoon.

The man was rescued by the people present there and later Rescue 1122 crew shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

According to railway police, the victim was identified as Mohammad Faizan, 19, a resident of Bhakkar, and was a labourer.

He came to Rawalpindi from his native town on Thursday night and had been staying at the Railway Station. At about 12.30 in the afternoon he doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire, the 2police said.
