LAHORE: The Hafizabad police claim to have taken into custody five suspects in the rape of a woman.

The police ‘arrested’ the suspects during raids carried out in some parts of the district and a few other cities and shifted them to the Sukheke police station for interrogation, the sources said.

They said most arrests came in the light of information obtained from a suspected robber who was nabbed by the police soon after the rape along a road and geofencing of the area.

The sources said the police also picked up some relatives of the prime accused persons who had fled to Rawalpindi and other parts of the province in order to exert pressure on them to surrender themselves to the police.

The woman was allegedly raped in front of her husband and minor daughter on Wednesday night when they were going back to their home in Chiniot by a motorbike.

The sources said the criminals held the family hostage, took the woman to the fields where they allegedly gang-raped her.

The CIA and other police teams were assigned the task to trace and arrest the robbers.

The Hafizabad DPO said police teams were working on the case and its details would be shared once the investigations were completed.
