RAHIM YAR KHAN: A bogie of a goods train got derailed near Rahim Yar Khan Railway Station in the early hours of Friday as its wheels got separated from the main frame.
Sukkur Divisional Transport Officer (DTO) Mohsin Ali Sial told Dawn that an empty goods train – 7-Down KPA – was on its way to Karachi from Lahore, when its break van (ZNRV) got derailed between the outer and home signals of the railway station around 3am due to “unknown reasons”.
He said that due to the derailment, the main down track was blocked for railway traffic. After the accident, Pakistan Railways (PR) officials operated all the up and down passenger trains following ‘single line operation’ according to the schedule, the DTO added.
He said after passing of the 12-Down Hazara Express, which was halted at the Khanpur
Railway Station, the track restoration work would be launched that would take around two hours to complete.
Mr Sial said a rescue crane called form Rohri has already reached Adam Sahaba Railway Station for carrying out restoration of the track.
A PR source said that the goods train bogie derailed on the bridge of Nowshehra Minor canal, passing through the city.
He said had the bogie careened off the track, there might be casualties as there were some shops and house near the spot.
