KARACHI: The Pakis-tan Peoples Party (PPP) has warned that ‘speculation and proposals’ about formation of a technocratic government in the country are against the spirit of democracy and any such attempt could invoke Article 6 of the Constitution.

Speaking to reporters at a ceremony organised by Peoples Labour Bureau to celebrate 69th birthday of President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Sindh chapter president Nisar Khuhro ruled out any possibility of replacing the government with a technocratic set-up.

“The Fitch report recently referred to possibility of a technocrat government in Pakistan, but every Pakistani should know that any such set-up for the governance is against the spirit of democracy and violation of the constitution,” he said. “And we all know that anyone who violates the constitution should face Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Our party is very clear about this and it has always offered sacrifices for the supremacy of the constitution and the parliament.”

He said it was the PPP government between 2008 and 2013 which surrendered its power only to strengthen democracy by giving them Constitutional protection over any other “political theory or experiment”.
