GAMBLING AND ADDICTION: The backward areas of Sukkur, such as Shamshabad, New Pind, Khosa Goth, Old Sukkur and others, are severely affected by the twin menace of gambling and drugs. These areas do not have libraries, public parks or playgrounds where the people, especially the young, may engage in recreational activities. Hence, they get easily involved in illegal activities. Police do not take any action against the culprits as they take bribes to allow such activities to continue. People living in such areas have often lodged complaints with the relevant offices, but no heed has ever been paid to such requests. The district administration needs to wake up to its duties and curb all illegal activities in the area.

A SANE MOVE: The visionary move by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to act as a peacemaker and try to end the war in Ukraine is laudable. The war has devastated Europe’s economy, brought inflation and deprived the people of basic facilities, like health, education and employment. To save its crumbling capitalism, the United States has thrust this war on Russia. While the US and its allies are filling their personal coffers, the people are suffering. As such, the puppet European Parliament has opened floodgates against Orban for his advice to save the world from warmongerers.

DEPRIVED VILLAGE: The Sarap village in Washuk district of Balochistan has remained deprived of many basic facilities, such as hospital, high school and link roads. To cope with their health-related issues, the local people have to spend a lot of money to have their patients carried to nearby cities for treatment. Moreover, the youth in the village is deprived of theiright to education. In the absence of proper roads, the people suffer as they cannot take the local farm produce to the markets. The government should come to the rescue of the people of Sarap village.
